I learned a big lesson before buying new batteries! I hate being ripped off!
Recently I popped in the high street store "Jessop's" in the UK to see if they had any flash diffusers. I was after the Stofen type, as I needed one after leaving behind mine during our move from Spain.
They had none as they are geared more towards, and cater more for less professional photographers.
However, they did have rechargeable batteries which I need as mine are about 3 years old now and pretty much defunked!
The price for 4 x AA 2500 mAh Ni-MH batteries was a staggering £12.95 (or $26.00)! I struggled to remember what they cost in Spain but I knew it was a lot less than that. So, I decided to get some when in Spain this week.
When passing Boots the Chemist, I decided to try in there and guess what??? They had the exact same batteries for £2.50 and even better, they had a 3 for 2 offer on! I bought 3 packs (12 batteries) for just £5.00 which would have cost £38.85 at Jessop's literally 100 yards away!
Jessop's are known for being expensive but this disgusted me. I nearly turned back to go and tell them what I thought. But I didn't.
At the end of the day, the people in the shop are only doing their job so I decided to rant about it here instead!
So, there is today's lesson for you all. Don’t take the first price you see as set in stone...shop around first.
This is a huge reason why I now buy 90% of my photography gear online! Ok, I am off to pack for Spain...3 meetings, 2 beach family portraits, and a wedding to shoot...taxiiiiiiiiiiiii!
