I'll be completely honest with you. I am a DJI man through and through. My Mavic 3 Pro Cine and Mavic 5 Pro for aerial work, the DJI Pocket 3 for handheld video, and the superb DJI Mic 2's that I use across pretty much everything...including my Lumix S5iiX and my gorgeous Lumix GH7.

My Verdict: Should a DJI User Jump Ship?
Right. Here's where I have to be straight with you, the same way I always am.
The case for staying with DJI and waiting for the Pocket 4P is real. I already live in the DJI ecosystem. My Mavic 3 Pro Cine, my Mavic 5 Pro, my Pocket 3, and those DJI Mic 2's that I use constantly, on the Pocket, on both Lumix bodies, for interviews and weddings. Transitioning to the Pocket 4P would be almost frictionless. Same app, same mics, same workflow, same reliability I've trusted for years.
The 17 stops of dynamic range being touted for the Pocket 4P is also genuinely impressive - edging ahead of the Luna Ultra's 14, and if that Hasselblad colour science turns out to be the real deal, it could be best-in-class.
But the case for the Insta360 Luna Ultra is compelling, and I don't say that lightly.
Leica lenses are not a marketing gimmick. Insta360 has had a six-year co-engineering relationship with Leica spanning five products, and the results consistently speak for themselves. Leica Summicron glass on a 1-inch 8K sensor is not something you can wave away, T3 gave the Luna Ultra their Platinum award at launch, and early real-world footage comparisons have been impressively favourable. That means something.
And then there's that screen. Again.
For property videography in particular, where I'm often moving room to room with the camera on a tripod, being able to step back and control framing wirelessly without touching the camera would genuinely change how I work. The DJI Pocket 4P simply cannot do that.
The Luna Ultra also wins on storage flexibility. 47GB internally is less generous than the 107GB on the standard Pocket 4, but the Luna Ultra supports a microSD card up to 1TB - crucial for multi-day shoots without laptop access.
For DJI users already deep in the ecosystem, the Pocket 4P remains the natural choice - once it's globally available and specs are confirmed. The familiarity is real, the reliability is proven.
But, and it is a sizeable but, the Luna Ultra is not a compromise. It's a legitimate, arguably superior product in several key areas. The Leica optics are exceptional, the detachable screen is genuinely innovative, and it is available right now with no regulatory uncertainty.
If you are not already locked into the DJI ecosystem, the Insta360 Luna Ultra is without question the most exciting pocket gimbal camera released in 2026.
For me personally? I'm keeping a close eye on the Pocket 4P's full global launch. But that detachable screen keeps nagging at me. And when something keeps nagging at me, it usually means something...
