One of the biggest expenses for photographers and cinematographers is software. Whether we purchase titles outright or subscribe to a service, the expenses add up. Most photographers these days use Adobe software in one form or another so are subjected to regular Adobe updates for:
- Premiere Pro
- After Effects
We will add any new updates to this page as we hear about them so please bookmark us or join our newsletter for future reference. Our usual newsletter covering photo/video news, tips and advice will also be sent when we update this page or have other relevant news so be sure to sign up.
Most updates will be kept on this page until a new update supersedes it. Either that or until a certain amount of time has passed where the update is no longer relevant.

Adobe Updates Lightroom and Camera RAW (and Bridge)
Adobe has today release a major update to their Lightroom apps. They have also added support for the latest cameras and lenses to Adobe Camera RAW (now 10.1). As usual, the update also addresses and fixes a few minor issues.
Now this looks pretty cool, and intelligent. Some may like it and others not so much.
Enhanced ‘Auto’ will automatically apply the best edits in your photos
New in this release of Adobe Camera Raw
Start your Camera RAW edits with Auto. This uses “Adobe Sensei” to intelligently apply adjustments based on any of your photo’s light and colour characteristics.
Adobe’s new “Auto” feature now uses an advanced machine learning. It uses this to automatically apply what it thinks are the best edits for these slider controls in your photos:
The Auto feature can also optimize the adjustments of the photo even after you have cropped it to any degree.
Its underlying neural nets have been pre-trained with thousands of professionally photographed and manually edited shots to evaluate and correct any image. Pretty much like a skilled human photographer like yourself would.
I must say it does a pretty good job and is not dissimilar to HDR toning (click images for larger versions…both from RAW):

Adobe Camera Raw has also been updated right across the Photoshop and Lightroom products. This adds support for:
- Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III
- Hasselblad A6D-100c
- Leica CL
- Light L16
- Panasonic Lumix DC-G9
- Sony A7R III
…as well as the latest smartphones from Google and Apple. The GoPro FUSION and HERO6 Black cameras also get an update. A number of lenses recently released are also supported in Adobe Camera Raw 10.1.
