DJI Mavic 3 Pro Rumours: Images, Specs and Date!

DJI Mavic 3 is Here!

Update November 2021: Forget the rumours, the new DJI Mavic 3 is here and it's called...the DJI Mavic 3. There is also a Cine version shooting Pro Res to an internal 1TB hard drive.

Full, Hands on, DJI Mavic 3 Review

Could this be the new Mavic 3 Pro? DJI Mavic 3 Cine?

Note: Most of these "leaked" Mavis 3 Pro/Mavic 3 Cine Premium  rumours, images and specs have come from @JasperAllens over on Twitter and his Facebook Group. Again, the following is speculation based on these rumours. The prospects are still exciting nonetheless.

Ok, I've seen enough now so I am assuming the launch of the DJI Mavic Pro 3 is imminent. Maybe the Mavic 3 Cine Premium? These are my thoughts to which I will add to this page as time goes on. Rumoured DJI Mavic 3 Pro Specs

Everything I have seen so far leads me to believe the specs could be:

  • Name: DJI Mavic 3 Pro
  • Versions: 3? DJI Mavic 3, DJI Mavic 3 Fly More Combo and DJI Mavic 3 Cine Premium Combo?
  • Camera(s): Dual (Hasselblad?)
  • Flight Time: 46 Minutes
  • Obstacle Avoidance: Omnidirectional with Infra Red
  • Gimbal: 3-Axis with Possible Locking Mechanism
  • Video: 5.2K 30fps, 4K 60fps
  • Sensor: CMOS 1/2 12mp and CMOS 20mp M43 sensor
  • Lens (x2): 160mm f4.4 and 24mm f2.8-f11
  • ISO Range: Telephoto Camera: 100-3200, Wide Angle Camera: 100-6400 for Video, Photo is 100-3200 (auto) and 100-12800 Manual
  • Shutter Speeds: Telephoto Camera 1-1/8000th, Wide Angle Camera 8-1/2000th (mechanical), 8-1/8000th
  • Weight: 750g
  • Battery: Li-ion 18650 (500mAh @ 7.2V)

It will be interesting to see how close these specs are upon release. So for now, these are my thoughts on some of these specs.

The Name: DJI Mavic 3 Pro/DJI Mavic 3 Cine Premium

This is still to be confirmed but it seems likely that this will be the name. Other options include dropping the "Mavic" and simply calling it the DJI 3 Pro or Mavic 3 Cine Premium but we'll have to wait and see.

Versions?

I thought that DJI would drop the "2 versions" after the Mavic 2 Pro/Mavic 2 Zoom and hoped they would include both cameras in one drone. Well, they have apparently produced three drones yet they all have the same two cameras.

It seems that the difference may be in the storage. One with the usual SD card slot and the other using a built-in 1TB SSD (solid state drive). Maybe the SSD version will shoot Pro Res RAW? If so...wow.

I can see the benefits of three versions here. The standard Mavic 3 Pro, a Mavic 3 Pro Combo and a possible Mavic 3 Cine Premium? The cine perhaps having 5.2k Pro Res RAW?

Most people wouldn't need 5k (RAW?) or such a large internal drive but they would still like to benefit from two cameras. One telephoto and one wide angle meaning they'll opt for the cheaper combo. Nice.

DJI Mavic 3 Pro Version List

Cameras

It seems to be a given now that the Mavic 3 Pro, Mavic 3 Cine (or whatever) will have two cameras. It's increasingly looking like it will still be a Hasselblad camera in keeping with the Mavic 2 Pro.

This has been my hope for a long time. The Mavic 3 Pro with two cameras will be superb for all manner of applications:

  • Sports and Wildlife
  • Property/Roof/Building Inspections
  • Events/Concerts/Weddings
  • Landscapes
  • Film and TV (RAW?)
  • Commercial Work/Promotional Videos
  • Fun!

Personally, I will be going for the better of the two as my work is so varied. The big question is "will this be a Hasselblad camera? One can live in hope.

Having both a wide angle camera of 24mm and telephoto camera of 160mm, without the hassle of having to zoom. That could be great. Although I wonder if the telephoto has some kind of zoom even if digital?

Flight Time

This is a biggie! If the rumoured 46 minutes is true, wonderful! Most roof surveys I do use just one battery at the moment so 46 minutes is overkill for that. But for just about anything else such as weddings, 46 minutes is superb (even if the actual time is around 38-40 minutes). Let's see.

Obstacle Avoidance

Judging by the renders of the supposed DJI Mavic 3 Pro drone, they have refined the sensors. It looks as though they have wider reaching sensors on the four corners of the drone rather than multiple sensors on each side.

This makes sense and could give us a full, all round avoidance protection.

3-Axis Gimbal

Clearly the gimbal will be similar to all other DJI drones of this size. I think the biggest difference could be the fact that it locks in place when not powered up. This will be great for storage and attaching filters without the gimbal moving about.

Video

5.2k video at 30fps on a Mavic 3 Cine is very welcomed but I am surprised that they didn't go for at least 6k. After all, the EVO II range has 4k, 6k, 8k and up to 48mp stills options. Hopefully we will see 4k 120? Again, we will have to wait and see but I had been seriously looking at the Autel EVO II Pro. DJI will win though ; )

Controller

It looks as though there could well be an update to the Smart Controller too (image below). Fingers crossed on that!

Summary

I'm going to leave it there for now but this is the drone I have been waiting for since the death of my Inspire 1. If I can have a M43 sensor shooting 5.2k RAW and 20mp stills in a much smaller form, wow. Take my money.

I love the DJI Mavic Air 2 but the limitations of the smaller sensor can be frustrating. The Air 2s addresses this to a degree but M43? Bring it on.

Update 25.09.21: Final "draft" in the flesh?

Mavic 3 Pro in the Flesh

Some say the Mavic 3 Pro/Mavic 3 Cine above is ugly. I say I don't care as long as it is functional with great specs. After all, the majority of the time it will be 2k 500m away : ) and you won't see it!

To me it looks like a wonky eyed frog carrying a box brownie camera : )

I'm thinking that the filters will be attached in a similar way to the DJI Mavic Air 2/2s etc. Twist off the front element of the lens and twist a filter on.

Update 26.09.21

Once again, @JasperAllens is kicking a** with his updates. Here are the latest images showing the Mavic 3 Pro/Cine in its box. Once we are at this stage, the official update from DJI and release date is imminent.

Also, the Hasselblad camera is confirmed,
