Nikon P1000 Release Date Announced as September 2018
I was constantly amazed as the videos and stills produced by the Nikon P900 and its 83x zoom lens. I was always recommending it to friends. Nikon have now blown that out of the water with the latest successor, the Nikon Coolpix P1000.
I have always taught people to use fixed focal length lenses where possible and use your feet to compose your shot. This way, you get to really study your subject from all angles. However...

The Nikon P1000 has an incredible 125x zoom lens. That is the equivalent of a 24-3000mm lens! Shooting the moon, animals, birds and sports will never be this good.

Thoughts
My first thought after seeing the P900 in action was "I want one".
I love the addition of 4k 30fps but I REALLY love the clean HDMI out. Even the (grrr) Canon 5D Mark IV doesn't have that but I do love it on the Panasonic GH5. This means you can record to an external device in a non-compressed format such as Pro Res.
Bliss.
However, the main attraction has to be that lens. I am sure that 90% of sales will be for that beast with people using it for:
It is a lot of camera and I think the price tag of $1000 is pretty good. I will wait to see some professional samples (stills and 4k video) before putting my hand in my pocket for one.
However, it is a lot of fun and a lot of camera in one little (well, quite large) bundle.
