Go Pro HD Hero 3 is on Order
This camera has now set the bar so high for fans of POV cameras it will be hard to match. Consequently, you know damn well that they will already be working on a new version for next year!
Regardless, the things that blew me away about this camera are the things that I so wished Canon had added to the EOS 5D Mark III.
Looking at the tiny size of the HD Hero 3, it is definitely "doable" to get this tech into a large DSLR like the 5D Mark III:
Amazing for 2.5x slow motion. If the 5D Mark III had this, it would have probably swayed me into buying it. Rather than the second 5D Mark II I bought because I shoot a lot of slow motion clips at weddings etc.
Wow! The Go Pro HD Hero 2 had this but only at WVGA resolution so to get it at HD 720p is incredible! This will slow footage down to -5x the speed but also provide UBER smooth footage of fast action. Lovely!
Zoiks…10x slow motion at web graphics resolution. How very cool and I look forward to testing this out.
Jaw hits floor.
What is 4K?
If you don't understand what 4K resolution is, this may help. The latest Canon 4K video camera, the EOS C500, costs $30,000! To see what difference this makes to resolutions, and bear in mind that 4k TV's are already on the market, look at the comparison chart below:
The Go Pro 3 only shoots 4k resolution at 15fps and the smaller 2k resolution at 30fps. However, there are certain things you can do with this resolution that I will be testing.
Again, if Go Pro can squeeze this tech into a tiny camera like this, surely the DSLR manufacturers could do the same? But not only that, the Go Pro HD hero 3 also has the following which would be amazing in the next gen 5D (Mark IV?)
Going back to my point of why aren't these features in a DSLR yet?
Well, I assume that the processing power needed to "fuel" these features in a full frame DSLR is a little out of reach at the moment. But it is coming, you can be sure of that. I am looking forward to the Canon EOS 5D Mark V! : )
