Of Course, The DJI Mini 3 Pro Is Better Than The Mini 2 But How Much Better is it?
The DJI Mini 2 was a highly popular drone due to its sub 250g weight coupled with high quality 4K video and high resolution stills photography. How could DJI improve on this without jeopardizing sales of their next tier line up such as the DJI Air 2s or even the Mavic 3?
What upgrades has the DJI Mini 3 had over the Mini 2?
Well, they could add things like obstacle avoidance, 4k 60, 10-bit, CinelikeD. Take a look at just how many upgrades the DJI Mini 3 has had:

On average, you are looking at paying double for the DJI Mini 3 over the Mini 2 (full review of Mini 2) but is it worth it? In my opinion, a resounding yes!
Take all of the above upgrades into account and then add the superb DJI RC (controller) into the mix and you have a completely different drone. One that is possibly closer to the DJI Mavic 3 than the Mini 2.
My opinion on this upgrade
I have only had this review copy for a few days and I love it! The DJI Mavic 3 had a couple of things that bothered me such as the quality of the second camera, unreleased features on launch and the price. The DJI Mini 3 on the other hand has got pretty much everything, and more, right on launch.
I can honestly say that there is nothing right now that I don't like about this drone in this price range. It is quick to set up and connect to satellites, good in strong winds, the images quality all round is superb and it's priced well.
The best features of the DJI Mini 3 (for me)
- 1The DJI RC (controller to the right above)
- 2Obstacle avoidance
- 3Stills resolution
- 44k 60fps video
- 5D-Cinelike
- 610-bit, 150mbps video
- 7Low light photography and video
All of the above make this a no-brainer if you are in the market for a sub 249g drone. The image quality in both stills and video is sublime and in relatively low light up to 1600 ISO, I was massively impressed!
The DJI RC is super light, bright, great connectivity, easy to use and smart. My only gripe is that DJI really should be using DJI GO 4 with these drones.

Caveats/Beware
If there was one thing I had to alert buyers to, it is the autofocus. Don't get me wrong, it isn't bad, in fact it is superb. It's just that unlike the DJI Mini 2 which is simply constant focus on EVERYTHING, the Mini 3 has "touch to focus". This is where you tap the screen to focus on a specific subject/object.
This is important because the DJI Mini 3 gives images with a shallower depth of field meaning less will be in focus. This is due to the slightly larger sensor and wider aperture of f1.7 compared to f2.8 on the Mini 2.
See the image below which shows the difference between the two levels of focus and depth of field (click image for a larger, clearer version).
This is similar to drones in higher price brackets. The camera will also slowly autofocus once you move away from the subject but it is perhaps a little slow and unreliable. Therefore, remember to hit the screen again when starting to record video or take stills at a different location.
What is the Best Memory Card for the DJI Mini 3
In my opinion, the SanDisk Extreme Pro MicroSD is by far the best card I have used in drones as well as my DSLR's/Mirrorless cameras.
In fact I recently bought a ton of them including 64gb, 128gb and 256gb capacities. They were used to film a Guinness World Record using my Panasonic GH5 and Panasonic S1H. For something that important, I needed cards that I had tried, tested and that I could rely on 100%.
The 256gb SanDisk Extreme Pro cards ran flawlessly for 34 hours NON STOP! One 256gb card recorded 28 hours of continuous 1080p footage.
HIGHLY recommended! Check them out on Amazon for the best prices.
Conclusion
If you are in the market for a sub 249g drone and have the budget, buy the DJI Mini 3 today, you won't regret it! Stocks are limited right now due to very high demand.
