Canon EOS 5D Mark IV Audio Test

5D Mark IV sound test with on board, shotgun and lavalier microphones

Audio in any production is as important, if not more so than the actual video itself. I could happily watch a film with poor video and amazing sound over a superbly shot film with awful audio. In light of this, I wanted to check the audio quality on the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using 3 mics:

  • On-board
  • Shotgun
  • Lavalier

Now obviously the on-board microphone was the worst but in saying that, it was still ok. Not really useable isn a professional capacity but fine for family stuff or quick got-to-get-videos.

The Rode Videomic Pro worked as always...great. I love this mic and use it on the Canon and the Panasonic GH5. Really good audio quality, reliable and the battery lasts forever.

Lastly, the lavalier mic worked flawlessly with the 5D Mark IV as expected. These are pretty old now but still work perfectly and is my go to mic for most interviews or review videos.
