New Nikon 800mm F5.6, Drool!

This is one stunning piece of glass from Nikon

Nikon 800mm F5.6

The Nikon 80mm f5.6 is enough to make me want to "come over to the dark side". It is simply a beautiful piece of workmanship and hopefully the image quality and autofocus is up to par. It if is, this could be the new "go to" lens for sports and wildlife photographers.

The official bit

Anyway, Nikon have released details of a gorgeous new lens for their line-up of Nikkor lenses. It has a fixed focal length of 800mm and a maximum aperture of f5.6 and is fully compatible with Nikon FX-format cameras. In addition to the lens' superior optical performance, it will also offer dust and water resistance.

This lens has a fixed focal length of 800mm and a maximum aperture of f5.6. When coupled with the Nikon D800 and D800E, this will be a formidable lens.

Nikon are an official sponsor of The Open Golf Championship so this lens will have a few outings coming up. It will be displayed at Royal Lytham St Annes Golf Club in Lancashire and Photokina 2012.

As I said, if you want to see it in action, it will be at Photokina 2012 in Cologne between September 18th-23rd. The release date and suggested retail price have not yet been determined for this lens but it won't be cheap!
