New Canon EOS 1Dx Is Here

The New Flagship Canon EOS 1Dx is Here, and Wow!

Canon EOS 1DX

Canon have today announced their new flagship model, the Canon EOS 1Dx. This now takes pride of place in the Canon hall of fame and comes with a whole new array of exciting features and functions including:

  • 18mp sensor (well done Canon for keeping it real)!
  • EOS iTR AF (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition Auto Focus) function is capable of tracking a subject’s face or target colour to maintain focus on a moving subject
  • 3 DIGIC processors including 2 DIGIC 5+ Processors (great for super low noise at high ISO and excellent dynamic range)
  • 100,000-pixel RGB metering sensor with a single DIGIC 4 processor dedicated solely to this system
  • 12 and 14 fps shooting (14fps available with mirror lock up)
  • New sensor cleaning system
  • Multiple Exposure capability (in camera HDR processing?)
  • ISO up to 51,200 (204,800 at H2…Zoiks Scooby!)
  • New 61-Point High Density Reticular AF
  • Enhanced EOS HD Video - New Compression, Longer Recording
  • Built-in LAN connection
  • Optional Canon GP-E1 GPS Receiver

On paper the Canon EOS 1Dx looks to be an amazing new DSLR from the Canon camp. I have owned a few of the 1-Series cameras and can say they are incredible to use.

I stopped using them due to the weight. Carrying around two of these all day at a wedding with heavy lenses attached was a bit much. For studio or landscape work, or even portraits and sports, this camera is pretty cool.

14 frames per second is bonkers-fast and it will be interesting to see what the HD video is like. Video on DSLR's is becoming increasingly popular and mainstream with each release.
