Perhaps get a portfolio together and trade services with other suppliers
I have already “sewn the seed” with my accountant whereby I may be helping her with her website in exchange for accountancy services. You could do this with any number of suppliers, just work out the cost for each service that is mutually beneficial and “swap”.
For example, I may charge £20 per hour for my services whereas the accountant may charge £40 for theirs, therefore I give two hours work for one hour of her time and so on.
With regards to photography, this is similar once again to using models and families for stock shoots in exchange for a set of prints or all images on a disk. No money needs to change hands, just time and photos.
Maybe you know a local mechanic who would be only too happy to service and MOT your car in exchange for a set of family portraits? Even if they weren’t thinking about having portraits done, this may sway them…you end up with a portfolio and your car serviced and they get a portrait sitting for nothing.
Worth thinking about but remember, working for no money will affect your bottom line in your accounts so use this idea sparingly.
Note: Please check the legalities of this with your local tax office!
