Star or Asterisk Button *- Exposure Lock
This is one of the most handy and most used tools on my cameras…it is the exposure lock button. When pressed it will lock in your cameras meter settings for 15 seconds or so while you recompose and take the shot.
For example, let’s say a scene you are shooting has a particularly bright area and that is what you want to meter for. In Tv or Av, aim your camera at that point, zoom in if you want to and press the * button. That will lock in a meter reading for that particular area so when you take the shot, you know that are will be exposed correctly regardless of whether the rest of the scene is under or overexposed.
