Sometime Stills Just Don’t Cut It
This is why I love video as much as stills photography. The importance of video? Priceless.
The importance of Video in my life came to me last night. I had the task of offloading all our DV video tapes to my old computer which included many long lost memories. This takes time as you have to do it "real time" and either watch every tape or head off to make tea whilst they offload.
It didn't take long before I was transfixed to my screen as I watched hour after hour of footage I had taken up to 16 years ago. This included:
It was fantastic and before I knew it, it was midnight.
The Importance of Video and Nostalgia
There was one batch of clips that I had forgotten about that was quite special from way back in 2001. We used to go out on a friends boat a fair bit whether fishing or scuba diving off the coast of Gran Canaria. On this one particular day, our fishing was interrupted by one of the coolest things.
The largest pod of Atlantic Dolphins I have ever seen decided to come and play with us for a while. Most of us have seen Dolphins at some point, normally in a zoo. However, there is nothing quite like seeing them miles from shore, civilization, and totally in their own environment.
What a magical day and one that will stay with me forever.
Since then I made sure to capture just about every family event possible. From the first steps of my kids to a simple day out in the woods. I want to be able to sit back as an old man and relive much of my like through video. Being born in the 60's, I have very little to see from my childhood.
That's the importance of video for me. What about you? Please add your comments below...
