Just how good is the GoPro Hero 9 stabilization?

The last few GoPro Hero action cameras have introduced ground-breaking image stabilization. The GoPro Hero 9 stabilization takes this feature to a whole new level. Combining GoPro's HyperSmooth 3 Boost with the incredible Linear Horizon Leveling setting gives you some of the best stabilization footage I have ever seen!
I thought the stabilization on my trusty GoPro Hero 7 was superb so I was a little apprehensive about upgrading to the GoPro Hero 9. Would the image stabilization in the Hero 9 live up to the hype? Is it better than the Hero 7? Is it worth the cost?
I Bit the Bullet!
After selling my Canon EOS 5D Mark II on eBay, I bit the bullet and bought the GoPro Hero 9. I also bought the Media Mod for the additional functionality it brings.
Right away, I decided to fix the GoPro Hero 9 to the handlebars of my mountain bike. I thought I'd take it for a spin. For the review, I used a chest mount to film the Hero 9 with my GoPro Hero 7. the aim was to highlight the movement of the bike compared to the stabilization achieved from the Hero 9. I wasn't disappointed.
Check out the video above to see sections of my bike ride where I would have expected the stabilization to fail. Incredible.
GoPro Hero 9 Stabilization Video Settings
For this stabilization test, I used the following camera settings (only two). These are shown in the clips as top which I was using.
The GoPro Hero 9 offers an amazing array of features and the number of options available for video is astounding. I will go into more detail in the upcoming full review.
Is The Go Pro 9 Stabilization Worth It?
My daughter already has her beady eyes on this camera for her surfing exploits. If you are into any form of sport that is more active than a simple bike ride, you will love this.

Take it from someone that studies cameras to the n'th degree before buying. I am incredibly fussy when it comes to image quality and features when spending my hard-earned cash so believe me, this is a great camera.

In a way, the increase in size is appreciated because it makes it more manageable and it seems that it dissipates heat better. New features for scheduled or delayed recording are also appreciated. Something difficult to achieve when it seems that everything is already invented.
Couldn’t agree more and the scheduled recording is perfect for night/star trail time lapses. Review coming soon but overall, a superb, flexible and quality camera. Good for “B” roll captures at weddings too ; )
