Panasonic Lumix S1H Camera

Is the S1H camera the perfect hybrid in 2021?

Panasonic's Flagship Mirrorless S1H Camera

The term "Hybrid" camera refers to a DSLR or Mirrorless camera that has both high resolution stills and high quality video capability. For many photographers and filmmakers, this is the holy grail of imaging. The ability to shoot professional, high resolution stills, and quality 4k, 6k or 8k video in one camera is a Godsend. Less to carry too.

June 2021: I am so glad I borrowed the Lumix S1H camera from Panasonic as part of their loan scheme. I'd been dying to try this out for a long time. The only problem comes when you have to give it back.

If you think about it this is a genius scheme. Panny know only too well that once you find a camera you love, hold it and use it, you will inevitably buy it. Otherwise why borrow it in the first place? It worked like a charm on me.

The minute I held it in my hands I knew it was quality. As soon as I had shot a few stills and captured some stunning video clips, I knew I would buy it.

The DSLR is dead. Long live mirrorless!

Even though manufacturers are still producing DSLR's, and so they should, their time is pretty much up. When you have a silent, feature-rich, good in low light, powerful high quality hybrid mirrorless camera like the S1H camera, the DSLR feels kinda old.

The perfect hybrid mirrorless camera?

Is the Lumix S1H camera perfect? No. Does it come close? Hell yeah!

Not only are the stills stunning and 4k, 10-bit, 4:2:2, 400Mb/s video sublime, the rest of the camera oozes fun and creativity. The boundless features in the Panasonic S1H make photography and filmmaking fun. It makes me want to be out all the time shooting stock, time lapses, night stuff, creative stuff...I'm a kid again.
