The New Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI Has a Neat Trick Up Its Sleeve!
At a time when Canon are becoming the brunt of many a commenting joke, they finally reveal some very cool tech. I have been a Canon user for many years but lately I have become despondent with them. They don’t seem to listen to their customers and have released some pretty mediocre products over the years.
I bought the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and as a stills camera, I love it. As for 4K video, it really was a flop for many reasons that I won’t go into here. Also, their new delve into mirrorless cameras is “ok” but nothing ground-breaking.
Canon Flash – Introducing the New Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI
The new Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI may seem like just another Speedlite on first glance but it really isn’t. Being an owner of two aging 580EX II’s, it is easy to think that the numerical system means this is a lesser Speedlite.
Not so. Check out Canon’s video below, see the neat tech trick that this flashgun has and Canon owners…get your wallet at the ready!
I think this new tech will rapidly find its way into all new flashguns before long. If this feature works well and is reliable and if it isn’t too power hungry, it really is a game-changer.
I use bounced flash a lot during weddings, general home photography, some product photography and so on. Anything that speeds up my shooting is welcomed.
The Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI is slightly larger than most flashguns and this is due to its servo motors. These are what allow the AI to operate the flash head so quickly and efficiently.
The AI kicks in when the Speedlite automatically fires twice to assess the distance to the subject. Once at the subject and once at the ceiling. All pretty cool stuff and I look forward to reading more in the future and maybe even grabbing one for myself!
