I currently operate my multimedia business from our guesthouse (which my wife runs) in Weymouth. We are right on the beach. We get a number of "door knockers", especially in the summer. With the occasional "ne’er do well" that comes-a-knockin’, this 1 By One Video Security Doorbell will come in handy.

It is also good for people (including the elderly) who live alone. Or perhaps in places where they need that extra peace of mind when answering the door. Apparently, it can also be used as a very effective baby monitor too (with an additional piece of kit…not supplied).

Product Features:

When I first took the equipment out of the box I was impressed with the quality. The construction of this video door bell and monitoring system is pretty good. As someone that is very keen on quality electronics (buy cheap buy twice I say), I am impressed.

But, also being quite fickle about image quality, I was keen to see how this would fair with regards to the picture quality. After all, a fuzzy image of a stranger at night wouldn’t work.

Putting the system together is a breeze as it comes with full instructions and everything you need (including a 15′ cable). However, if you need additional or longer cabling, you will have to get these yourself.

Note: For 15-50m use 4 x 0.5mm wire, for 50-100m, use 4 x 0.75mm wire

The other two are to operate the electronic lock for door locks with this feature (not supplied) which is a great thing to have for clubs, sports halls, gyms etc.

Simply connect each of the main four wires to the same connection terminals of each unit and test before installing anywhere. I did this in a matter of minutes and it worked perfectly.

Units

The video doorbell unit itself comes with a mounting bracket and sun/rain shade and is easy to fix to most door frames using the 4 small screws provided. Be sure to thread the wires through the frame before attaching to the wall.

It is recommended that you install the video doorbell out of direct sunshine or rain, at a height of between 1.4m and 1.7m for best viewing of most people…and take into account any steps or where people generally stand when ringing the bell.

You then need to thread the cable through your property to a point where you can hang/attach the video monitor and make sure it is close to an electrical socket.

The outdoor video doorbell powers itself from the mains via the 15m cable so no separate DC cable is required. Simply plug the mains into the video monitor inside your property or home and you are good to go.

Operation

When a visitor rings the bell, the interior video monitor will ring and automatically turn on the screen to show who is at the door. To communicate, you press the telephone symbol and speak. The visitor simply speaks into the video doorbell to reply.

Quality

Both the video monitor and the video doorbell have microphones and speakers for two way communication and the sound is easily clear enough to hear both ways. The image quality from the camera is actually way better than I thought it would be so all in all, it is a great product with durability and quality signals.

This unit is a very good way of adding security to your home or business with regards to visitors. The outside doorbell is made of quality material and fits neatly on your door frame. The screen/monitor is a little less durable as it is made of plastic but it still produces a good image and the audio works well.

For a £100 or so, you can’t really go wrong with this if you want/need the ability to see who is at your door, communicate with them and possibly let them in all remotely.
