Stock photography and Buddha. Who is He and for what purpose could the images be used?
The term or name Buddha means "Awakened" and is so because he fully comprehended all Four Noble Truths and arose from the slumbers of ignorance; therefore, he is called a Buddha. As he not only understands but also expounds the doctrine and enlightens others, he is also called a Samma-Sambuddha, or a Fully Enlightened One.

Before his Enlightenment, Buddha was a bodhisattva which means "one who is aspiring to attain Buddha hood". He was not born as a Buddha, but became a one by his own efforts. Each aspirant to Buddha hood passes through this bodhisattva period; it is a period which comprises of many lives over a long period of time.
During this period, Buddha undergoes intensive exercise and develops the qualities of discipline, generosity, renunciation, wisdom, endurance, energy, truthfulness, benevolence, determination and perfect equanimity to perfection. In any particular era, there arises only one Fully Enlightened Buddha. In the same way that certain plants and trees can bear only one flower, one world system can bear just one Fully Enlightened Buddha.
The Buddha was a unique being and such a unique being arises rarely in this world. That being is born out of his compassion for the world, and for the good, benefit, and happiness of men and gods. The Buddha is also called by many other epithets, among them "The Giver of Deathlessness", "The Great Physician", "The Lord of the Dharma (Doctrine)". As the Buddha himself says, he is the "Worthy One, the Accomplished One, and the Fully Enlightened One." The Buddha had and needed no teacher for His Enlightenment. All of his knowledge of the secrets of all existence were realised by himself only through his own intuitive wisdom.
After reading this, and understanding a little about Buddha, the use of his image could be used for a variety of topics that portray;
- Enlightenment
- Understanding
- Discipline
- Generosity
- Wisdom
- Energy and Endurance
- Truthfulness
- Determination
