If Carlsberg Made Newsletters…
Welcome to the September newsletter folks, I hope those of you in the northern hemisphere had a great summer and those of you just starting it have a good one. We had a dreadful summer with regards to weather…August was a wash-out in Weymouth which is surprising but at least the garden got a good soaking!
I have added a couple of new features to ATP which you will hopefully enjoy and you can read about below. The idea is to try and create more of a community at ATP where you can all interact a little more and learn from each other.
I am also going to be introducing some more fun learning elements such as quizzes which we are currently testing.
I have been very busy over at the membership site lately and last weekend, the 17th and 18th of September, we had a members meet up (West Country Walkabout) in Dorset which was, as far as I can tell, a resounding success. You can read a short account of this weekend in item 6 below:
So, this month…
- Wedding Photography Course – 1 Place Left
- NEW Video Section
- NEW gallery
- NEW blog
- West Country Walkabout Article (Including special free training offer)
- Coming soon – Portrait Photography tips
1. Quizzes at ATP
When creating all the quizzes for ATP Members, I made a note to eventually add some quizzes to the main ATP site too but time slipped away from me. I have decided to add some now and have made a trial quiz for people to see and I would appreciate comments as to whether these would be a good addition or not.
They have the ability to host video clips and helpful tutorials to go with the topics on the page that they are on so I hope you find them useful. You can see the first of these at the bottom of our DSLR page here:
2. Three Day Wedding Photography Course in Weymouth
We now have just one place left for this special course so before I advertise it on the world wide web, I thought I would give the readers at ATP one last chance to grab it. This will be a very intensive course on all aspects of wedding photography with a different angle to it.
You can read more details below and if you are interested, please let us know as soon as possible.
3. New Video Section at ATP
For a long time, many years in fact, I have had a love of video as well as photography. It started when I used to splice and edit super 8 cine films even before I was a teenager. Somehow, being able to record moving images and then manipulate them appealed to me even as a young child.
I know there are people out there that have bought new DSLR’s that have the ability to shoot High Definition video but don’t have a clue where to start. Video can be a lot of fun to shoot, edit and play with so why not start to learn it better?
Video clips can also massively enhance stills slideshows and presentations, especially at weddings so having another “media string” to your bow can only help you move forward.
After talking to members at our recent Dorset meet (info above), it was clear that a few wanted more information so as well as giving a short lesson on video there, I have decided to add video to ATP for those interested.
The section is fairly small at the moment with a few links that have yet to be activated but there should be enough there to keep you going for now. I hope to add more and more as time moves on but I hope you enjoy the new section as much as I enjoy writing it.
4. User Photo Gallery at ATP
This is something I wanted to do for a long time but couldn’t find the right application. A few hundred Dollars and a steep learning curve later and I have finally added the ability for you to upload your own photos and galleries to All Things Photography…for free!
You can upload your images to any of the provided galleries but if you have any ideas for new topics, I’m all ears. You are able to have your images critiqued and also comment on other photographer’s photos so please make the most of this and start uploading today to show your work off to the world!
Note: You need to sign up and log in to upload image and please bear with me if you find any bugs or glitches…and please let me know if you do. This is still new and there may be some teething problems but I have tested the system myself with my own galleries and all seems fine so far!
User Photo Gallery at ATP (now removed…sorry)
5. New Blog at ATP
I have also added a new blog to ATP which makes it a LOT easier for me to blog about events at All Things Photography and get it online quickly. The old blog is still there for reference but if you have it in your RSS feed or other alert system, please add the new blog as the old one will not be added to any more.
6. West Country Walkabout
What a blast! I must admit, this weekend walkabout for members of ATP Members was organised as much for me to enjoy as it was for them. Over the years, ATP seems to have attracted an amazing bunch of readers which I why I built the membership section in the first place. It is nice to really interact and spend more time with people who have a similar ilk and passion for photography.
This weekend more than proved my point as 15 of us headed out into Dorset for a great weekend of learning, shooting and playing. Everyone got on well from the minute they met and I think some new friendships were formed…great stuff!
You can read more about this weekend and see some pics below and if you want to become part of our community, there is a special trial offer for ATP Members at the bottom of the article:
7. Coming Soon – Portrait Photography Tips
I am hoping to, if I get the time, to add a new section to ATP Members about setting up and starting a portrait photography business which is another great reason to join and get started today.
Portraits are one of the most reliable and fun aspects of photography. People always want portraits but with the introduction of photo booths and cheap portrait photographers in high street stores these days, you need to change your way of thinking…and your business model to match.
I am currently testing this on real time case studies myself with various families and shoots and will document all of these as I go to see how much the industry has changed, stay tuned…
So that is it for another month, I hope you found this issue interesting and please, please head over to the new gallery and start uploading your images. One thing I love about ATP Members and my involvement over there is looking at other people’s images.
Please note that in most cases I won’t be critiquing images at the standard ATP gallery, that time is reserved for members at ATP Members but please get involved in helping others with your own comments, experience and assistance.
All the best and see you soon!

Digital Photography TricksNice Newsletter. You always provide such high quality content to your subscribers for free. I really like the style of your new Newsletter and its format. It does a really good job of getting people out of their inbox and on to your website where they can find some more high quality info about photography. Good job!
