Wedding in Spain

Wedding Photography Tips

When myself and the wedding couple first went to see the reception area together, I pointed out that it may be a nice idea to get some shots on the rocks, weather permitting. Something different for the album.

Not for one minute did I imagine that we would get such perfect weather with a sky to match. When I showed this to the couple, two weeks later, the bride actually asked me if I had put the sky in later!

The secret to this shot was to use a polarising filter which darkened the sky and also got rid of any unwanted reflections on the sea water which was lapping around the rocks at our feet.

Also by using a 16mm lens, the ultra wide angle helped the draw the rocks and sky to the center of the image...and to the wedding couple.

The shot looks good in colour with a deep, rich, blue sky, but when converted to black and white the eye is drawn more to the stark contrast of the light wedding dress and dark suit.

It is essential that when you are photographing weddings in particular, that you spend some time researching a "beauty spot" or area nearby where you can get some nice "time out" shots with just the happy couple.

I have rarely if ever had any objections to wanting to get these special shots. It really pays to make the effort to do plenty of research before the big day.
