Nature Photography

Nature and wildlife photography are fast becoming one of my favourite subjects. The older I get, the more appreciative I become of my surroundings and fellow "housemates" on this big old planet.
The beauty with wildlife photography, as opposed to people, is that it is just that...wild! There is no posing, no set routine or absolute criteria, you just have to be vigilant and patient and the better the photo you get the bigger the pat on the back for utilising these qualities in yourself.
This shot, admittedly, was taken in a wildlife sanctuary and I was about 10 feet away from the Parrot. Everything about this set up was perfect for me and I don't just mean the end result. The shutter speed and aperture combination of 250th @ F8 is perfect for most outdoor situations. The speed is enough to stop any movements in everyday subjects and the aperture is enough to get good depth of field on the subject you are concentrating on.
The lens used was the Canon EF 70-200 L 2.8 IS, my absolute favourite lens, used at 200mm on the Canon EOS 20D. I used just the central focus point, aimed at the eye and fired off about 3 or 4 shots to ensure one at least was pin sharp.
The image has been cropped slightly to "surround" the eye with the beautiful green feathers. No sharpening and very little Photoshop work was needed to enhance the saturation or contrast.
Exposure: 250th/sec F8
ISO: 200
