This is another reason to take your camera everywhere with you. I normally take it with a simple "walk around" lens attached, in this case the Canon EF 28-135mm IS USM.
My wife and I were taking our son for a stroll by the beach early evening/late afternoon. It is normally fairly peaceful but on this day there were about 6 Spanish lads flying about on their quad bikes and trials bikes.
I am mad-keen on motorbikes and anything fast and furious so I was pleased (for once) to have our silence broken. I fired off a few shots and for this one, the guy on the quad had disappeared behind some reeds.
I kept the camera in the general area and then to my surprise, he burst out from behind, over a jump and down onto the beach below this ledge. I had the camera set to a fast shutter speed of 1250th/sec to catch the action and shutter set to the EOS 20D's 5 FPS (frames per second).
I cropped the image a bit to frame it better and added a filter effect to enhance the evening sunset. I was even lucky enough to get Gibraltar in the background...2 countries in one shot, Spain and Gib!
Exposure: 1250th/sec F4.5
ISO: 200
