Architectural Photography

In the past, this is the sort of shot I would have walked straight past. Much to the annoyance of my "very patient" wife, I always take a camera when we take our young son out for the day to new towns and I am constantly stopping to take a quick snap.

Gaucin is a very old and original town in Andalucia, southern Spain. Parts of it are quite poor and the "pueblos" are tightly packed and densely populated. This image may not appeal to all but it may interest people to know what the doorway leads to.

You would think it was an old storeroom judging by the wear and tear of the wood and paint, and padlock on the handle. It is in fact the front door to someone's house.

When walking around a new place with your camera try to see things as a photograph. Use your imagination to "see" the image finished, cropped, framed, enhanced, maybe converted to black and white and framed. It takes some practice but once you master this mindset, more and more images spring out at you than before.
