Sports Photography

As part of the ongoing lifestyle/brochure shoot, we wanted to get some activity images for the more active people looking to buy properties in Spain. To be a bit different, I tried to get away from pure action shots and took this one to get a different perspective.
I opened the aperture up to purposely keep the net in focus whilst throwing the players further into the background. It was then converted to black and white to emphasise the net more and not get distracted by the bold, bright colours.
I was very pleased when this image won the sports category for overseas photographer of the month with the SWWP and BPPA earlier this year (2005).
I always try to get a shot that is different from the "run of the mill" styles. It is good practice to keep yourself up to date with all types of photography by reading and browsing through magazines and periodicals.
Not just photography literature, but all publications that have pictures in. That way you can get some great ideas to incorporate into your own particular style of photography.
Exposure: 350th/sec F4
