Miyas Eyes Close

The story with this shot, for example, was...

"...focus, re-frame, shoot, focus, re-frame, shoot etc..."

As I was using a telephoto lens, the depth of field would be quite shallow, so the eyes had to be spot on. The best way of getting this right, is to shoot off a few frames using the above technique.

Line up the focussing point on your subjects' eyes, focus, keep the shutter button partly depressed to keep the focus setting, re-frame the shot, and fire. Do this a few times and you will get at least one shot where the eyes are perfectly in focus.

If you rely on just one shot, the chances are that as you re-frame, or take the photo after focussing, the subject (or you) could have moved JUST enough to put the eyes out of focus.

When you get this technique right, and when you see an enlargement of that photograph, you kind of get addicted to close up shots on the eyes...after all, they are the window to the soul!!
