Current affairs, a forever-changing, never-ending supply of stock photography
This is easy, just watch the news every day!
Watch the news, listen to the radio, read newspaper and look at what images are being used to illustrate the worlds current affairs. Go to a newsagents like WHSmiths (in the UK) and flick through current affairs, business and finance magazines.
Make a note of what is happening in the world and try to see in your mind how you could portray this. Step outside the box and think of new and fresh ideas, learn Photoshop so you can make composites that are funny, satirical, serious, weird…anything that stands out.
- Property crash
- Property boom
- Weight/Health problems
- Gun/knife culture
- Internet shopping
Note: Whenever you do a search at a stock library for a certain keyword, sort the results by most popular and see how many downloads the most popular image has had. If it is in the hundreds, you know that could be a lucrative idea. If it is well below 100, try another agency and if it is the same, move on.
Funnily enough, after making that short video at Dreamstime, I went into my Shutterstock account and saw that BOTH of those (supposedly unpopular) roundabout images with a bull on had sold whilst I was making the video!
