In the Garden
We were in the garden and James, on the right, was starting to get niggley and restless, so as it was a nice day we went into the communal gardens where he lives. Now, I am normally a stickler for sharpness, but I particularly liked this shot as it sums up the summer for me. I got the 2 children to have a race towards me and set the camera to continuous shooting, to ensure I got one that I liked. I used a wide-angle lens to get everyone in. It shows a sunny day, children having fun and the Mum looking on with a smile on her face. When I talk about nostalgia, hopefully this will work in years to come, for this family.
Again, by wearing the children out, I was able to get this shot fairly easily. I was also lying on the grass about 20 metres away, and used a telephoto lens to shorten the depth of field. Shooting into the sun, gave nice backlighting and highlights in the hair and fairy outfit. If you get the exposure right, this is the best way to shoot on a sunny day. You don't get the nasty shadows on the faces, although you will probably have to do some post-processing to get the features to lighten up a bit. |
