Can the Phantom 2 or Zenmuse H3 3D gimbal charge the Go Pro battery in flight?
Being fairly new to flying quadcopters or UAV’s, I was worried about the battery life of the Go Pro HD Hero 4 whilst out flying and filming with the Phantom 2.
I have spare batteries for the Phantom 2 meaning I could fly for an hour or more but the Go Pro, with a run time of around 50-60 minutes or less (especially at higher frame rates etc), is a pain to remove once installed into the Zenmuse H3 3D gimbal housing.
This also makes battery changes difficult and lengthy.
After my first flight of around 50 minutes, whilst filming at various resolutions from 1080p HD to 4K video, I noticed that the Go Pro HD Hero 4’s battery was still full…much to my surprise.
The connector from the Zenmuse gimbal to enable video link etc goes into the USB port of the Go Pro which is where you normally charge the camera so I guess this also charges the Go Pro in flight from the battery of the Phantom 2!
This is a big deal for me because having to unattach the Go Pro just to replace the battery would have been a real pain…happy days.
